COMMANDERS MESSAGE --- LARRY SULLIVAN
Hello, everyone, Welcome to September the summer has flown by school is back in session what happened to not starting until after Labor Day. I am happy to announce all DMVA Grant projects are complete and final payments from the state are being processed. I would like to extend special thanks to our Senior Vice Steve Allen and Quartermaster / Adjutant Rod Siegel for helping to complete.
Stove fundraiser wow what a huge success the money needed has been raised and the stove is in transit as we speak hopefully in place for this months burger night. The way we came together and made this possible makes me proud to be your commander, to many people to name individually but thanks to all that donated time, money, ribs and baked goods.
On a special note, during Detroit Lions Day games 1:00 and 4:00 Sundays I will be selling chili dogs in the Canteen and will work on having 50/50’s on those days also.
The calendar is still open for activities so please submit any request to the House Committee. A reminder we are capped to a $200.00 limit to pay for entertainment at the post. As we move forward, continue supporting the activities we have at the Post. Volunteers are our most precious commodity. The Hall and Kitchen areas are off limits to members and guests when events are not scheduled. I encourage you to lend the Post assistance when needed. Fun facts September 11 is Patriot Day honoring those who died during the attacks, 13 is Grandparents Day, and 18 is Constitution Day. We are looking for a couple of volunteers that can help with Pull Tabs on Mondays and Thursdays If you are interested, please contact Dave Jones at 231-206-1925. POST BUILDING RENOVATIONS UPDATE: I am happy to announce that all of the projects associated with the DMVA - VNI Grant have been successfully completed. My special thanks to the following Contractors for working with us on these renovations: Tony McCleary (McCleary Septic Systems), Anderson Plumbing, Bulldog Camera Surveillance, A&R Concrete Cutting, Bullseye Roofing Systems LLC (Duane Witham), H&H Landscape Supply (RJ).
PAST COMMANDERS & AUXILIARY PRESIDENTS PICTURES:
The past VFW Commanders & Auxiliary Presidents old pictures have been replaced with new prints in designer frames. If anyone would like to have their old pictures please contact Marty Davis at 213-557-2439.
COUNTY COUNCIL HONOR GUARD: The Muskegon County Council Honor Guard is actively looking for new members to participate in the "Military Honors" that are conducted at local Funerals. Anyone interested in joining members from our local Posts and Legions please contact Ron Wilcox at 231-767-1195 or our Post at 231-744-1018 (ask for Rod or Steve) and we will be glad to answer any questions or concerns.

MEMBERS AND GUESTS:
You are responsible for cleaning up after yourselves and your guests when visiting the Post. Glasses, trash, spilled drinks, messes on the floor, etc. are all YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to clean up. Drink glasses should be returned to the Bar near the well station so the Bartenders can properly take care of them. Our Bartenders should not have to spend extra time at the end of their shift to clean up after members.
HALL AVAILABLE FOR RENT:
Our 2520 SF hall with a capacity of 210 is available to rent for all occasions. The 418 SF Kitchen and LED Sign may also be negotiated for your event. Members and guests are reminded that acts of Sexual Harassment, Racial or Sexual Discrimination, and all other conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline or conduct to be determined to be unbecoming of a member or guest will not be condoned. In general, harassment and discrimination consists of any form of verbal, non-verbal, or physical conduct that is sufficiently and / or pervasive enough to have the purpose or effect of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment. Any reports of disrespect and/or verbal abuse from any Post, Auxiliary Member or guests will be dealt with suspension or termination of privileges.
LAST CALL:
When Bartenders give "Last Call", it's "Last Call" for EVERYTHING, including drinks, Pull Tabs and Keno. Plan accordingly as you will be expected to cash out before the Bartender locks up. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
PLEASE HELP US REMAIN COMPLIANT:
Guests are welcome at the Post, but please remember that ONLY MEMBERS OF THE POST CAN PURCHASE ALCOHOL. IF YOU ARE NOT A CARD CARRYING MEMBER OF POST 8846, YOU ARE CONSIDERED A GUEST. All guests are required to sign the "Guest Book" upon entering the Canteen. This rule is in compliance with our Liquor License and all Bartenders have been instructed on strict enforcement and will help us maintain compliance with State Regulations.

VFW OPPOSES PLAN THAT WOULD BURDEN FUTURE VETERANS
On June 11, VFW leaders expressed their opposition to provisions within the proposed House Bill Take Care of American's Veterans Act, H.R. 9237 and the Senate's version, S. 4744. Veterans, service members, family and supporters are encouraged to contact their elected officials and urge them to oppose the disability compensation offset provisions contained in the bill.
